Anadarko to begin horizontal drilling in Fort Lupton

FORT LUPTON, Colo. — Oil and gas activity is set to increase in northern Colorado as Anadarko Petroleum develops its drilling program in Fort Lupton as part of a much larger project in Weld County.

The Greeley Tribune reports Fort Lupton officials and energy industry advocates on Tuesday celebrated Anadarko, one of the top two oil and gas companies in Weld County, and its plan to begin horizontal drilling in Fort Lupton.

Anadarko’s vice president of operations, Craig Walters, says the company intends to drill up to 50 wells in the city and over 300 wells in the county this year. The drilling is expected to begin as soon as next month.

Each producing well is expected to bring $300,000 in taxes, which Mayor Tommy Holton says will go toward the city’s infrastructure.

In related news, Anadarko Petroleum quarterly profit lower, beats Street.
